Villa Bagatti Valsecchi, on the outskirts of Milan, provided the setting for photographs of the Keys, Drapery and Conservatory collections.

The estate has belonged to the Bagatti Valsecchi family since the sixteenth century. In the late nineteenth century, brothers Fausto and Giuseppe Bagatti Valsecchi transformed the original farmhouse into the villa seen today, creating a residence surrounded by formal gardens that remains one of northern Italy's most remarkable historic estates.

The Keys and Drapery collections were photographed throughout the villa's interiors, where natural light, richly detailed architecture and timeworn finishes complemented the honesty of the materials and forms. Rather than feeling staged, the furniture settled naturally into each room, revealing a relationship between contemporary design and a place shaped by centuries of history.

The Conservatory Collection was photographed amongst the villa's gardens, where mature trees, stone pathways and expansive lawns provided a quieter setting. The landscape offered a different perspective on the collection, placing it within the environment it was designed to inhabit while maintaining the same sense of restraint found throughout the estate.

Photographed by Inge Prins under the creative direction of Kevin Frankental, the series explores the relationship between contemporary furniture, architecture and landscape.
